Today, I am happy to announce that I will be partnering with charity: water in their quest to provide clean drinking water to millions around the world.
As an athlete, much of what we do is an inherently selfish endeavor. The worries of your own nutrition, training, recovery and other issues takes a paramount focus in your life. Over the last few months, I have been searching for a charity to help bring attention to, so that my singular focus can also bring some good to this world.
In my research, I stumbled upon charity:water. They are an amazing and innovative charity that is using the powers of social media and networking to help provide clean drinking water to millions around the world.
The more I read about water, the more it amazes me the severity of this problem. One in six people do not have easy access to safe drinking water. (For such a basic need this is astounding.) 30,000 people die each year from disease caused from unsanitary water. Ninety percent of them are under the age of five. Additionally, the quest for clean water forces many women and children to walk for hours to fulfill this basic need.
In talking with this charity over the last few months, I have been floored by their dedication, innovation and passion for helping out those in need. 100% of all donations that go to charity:water go directly to water projects. This is possible through an innovative approach of setting their charity up like a tech start up with angel investors and corporate partners.
I encourage everyone to please make a donation today to this amazing charity here: mycharitywater.org/speedskating4water. No donation is too small. $25 provides one person with drinking water.
